In Turkey, breakfast is a very important meal of the day. We serve many varieties like cheeses, olives, tomato, cucumbers, jams. If we have a guests, on weekends or holly celebration days the breakfast varieties can go up to 20 or even more. This Eid breakfast I prepared can be a good example for it 😊 With different egg dishes like Menemen, “Çılbır” or cilbir, Turkish tea and fresh bread or simit; it is many people’s favorite meal of the day as well. And this hard boiled egg kapama is one of them.

This Turkish hard boiled egg dish is so simple yet you are not going to believe how simple hard boiled eggs turn into something so delicious. It might be better if you count 2 eggs per person 😊

Ingredients for Turkish Egg Kapama:

  • 4 hard-boiled eggs
  • 2 tbsp or a little less butter (as much as you prefer)
  • about 1/4 tsp each red pepper flakes (the Korean style I found in Amazon looks similar to ours in Turkey), sweet paprika, dried mint, salt

How To Make Turkish Style Hard Boiled Eggs Kapama

  1. Boil eggs for about 9 minutes to have a somewhat soft-cooked yolk.
  2. Let them cool a bit, peel, and cut into two halves
  3. In a small pan (I used traditional copper egg pan similar to this ) that your egg halves can fit, melt butter. Add dried mint, paprika, and pepper flakes. Cook to toast for about 10-15 seconds without burning.
  4. Place the egg halves into the butter sauce.
  5. To cover the eggs with butter sauce, turn them gently. Then flip again.
  6. Melt extra butter on top if you want extra tasty. Even though the butter seems enough, eggs soak the butter and wouldn’t say no to an extra butter on top 🙂
