How To Make Turkish Style Orange Cookies

  1. Grate the orange rind. In a mixing bowl add butter at room temperature, sugar and the orange rind. Mix with the paddle attachment or whisk until creamy about 2 minutes. Meanwhile, squeeze the juice of half orange.
  2. To the butter-sugar mixture, add vegetable oil while mixing, eggs one at a time (if using), and mix.
  3. Add 1/2 cup corn starch (It gives more melt in the mouth texture to the cookie. But if you don’t have to add flour instead), 3 cups flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Drizzle 4-5 drops of orange juice over the baking soda.
  4. Add raisins and nuts, mix to turn into a dough. You can add more flour if needed to have a soft playable dough.
  5. Get walnut-size pieces and roll between your palm and bend to make a crescent shape. Place on a baking tray. You can shape the dough into balls and freeze it in a container and cook without thawing another time.
  6. Bake the cookies in a preheated 170C oven for about 25 minutes or until golden color and somewhat hard when touched.
  7. Keep the cookies in an airtight jar or container for 2-3 weeks or even more and enjoy with coffee or tea.
